CHAPTER I - UNDERSTANDING DREAM

1.1 What is Dream?

Before discussing deeply into the topic of dream and creativity, it is more proper in the beginning to interpret the meaning of dream and to understand how it is formed.

Firstly, the following is a quote extracted from a lecture at the "Exceptional Human Experiences" conference held in New York City, 1993:

"Dreams are ordinary only in the sense that everyone has them. What makes them extraordinary and qualifies them as exceptional human experience are the gifts they bring to our lives if we learn how to receive them"(1), says Montague Ullman. (to continue)




1.2 How are dreams formed?

According to a review: "Investigators since Freud have appreciated that memories of the people, places, activities and emotions of daily life are reflected in dreams but are typically so fragmented that their predictability is nil."(1) 

Dreams are basically reflections of our daily lives, and most of the sources of dreams are simply from the memory. However, knowing that dreams are reflections of our lives does not explain why we dream at all. Now, sleep and dream researchers have got the answer. (to continue)
