CHAPTER I - 1.1 What is Dream?

1.1 What is Dream?

Before discussing deeply into the topic of dream and creativity, it is more proper in the beginning to interpret the meaning of dream and to understand how it is formed.

Firstly, the following is a quote extracted from a lecture at the "Exceptional Human Experiences" conference held in New York City, 1993:

"Dreams are ordinary only in the sense that everyone has them. What makes them extraordinary and qualifies them as exceptional human experience are the gifts they bring to our lives if we learn how to receive them"(1), says Montague Ullman.

As dreaming is a common experience in human everyday life, according to a lecture presented by Montague Ullman, at the same conference held in New York City, June 13, 1993, he interpreted "dream is a remembrance in an awake state of whatever it is that we can bring back from the previous night's dreaming experience."(1)

Moreover, in the early period of twentieth-century, Sigmund Freud, an Austrian psychologist and also a founder of psychoanalysis, interpreted dream "as a disguised fulfillment of unconscious wish."(2)

In Freud's theory, the dream content of the dreamer usually is suppressed wishes of the dreamer. Dreams fulfill our wishes, which are not accessible to us or have been repressed in waking life. According to Freud, "dreams as disguised fulfillment of unconscious wish"(2), the dream as it is experienced by the dreamer is not what it appears to be, rather, it is somehow distorted.

Later on, with the development of brain science, dream is defined as a sequence of sensation, images, emotions, and thoughts passing through a sleeping person's mind. "Dreaming is nothing but our occasional awareness of brain activation in sleep."(3)

(to continue - 1.2 How are dreams formed?)

I've been surfing online greater than 3 hours today, yet I by no means found any interesting article like yours. It is lovely value enough for me. In my view, if all site owners and bloggers made excellent content material as you probably did, the internet might be a lot more helpful than ever before.
